Controversial South African cleric Pastor Mboro has revealed that he went through a hellish experience while behind bars, expressing relief that his son, who was initially arrested with him, did not go through the same.

Mboro (real name Paseka Motsoeneng) was released on R3000 bail on Thursday while his bodyguard was released with a warning.

Mboro, Baloyi and his son face 12 charges, including kidnapping, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and assault.

This after an incident at Matsediso Primary School in Katlehong, where the accused allegedly kidnapped two minors on 5 August. A video of the event went viral on social media, showing the three men armed with pangas and an assault rifle as they forcefully took the children.

Speaking to his son, Revival Motsoeneng, in front of the media after bail was granted at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, Mboro said that life behind bars had been painful.

“My son, I am happy that you were protected; life in prison is no joke. Whatever you do, don’t get caught. Give me a call and I’ll tell you all about it,’ he said.

Mboro said he was interested in seeing a peaceful resolution to the drama for the sake of the children at the centre of the conflict.

“Just listen to me; right now I’m not talking about who opened a case against me. I have no interest in punishing the family of gangsters that attacked me; I won’t harm anyone.

“That church tent is nothing; I want us to make peace for the sake of the children. I am Mboro!” he said.
