Harare – In a bid to raise awareness as well as promote early detection of cancer, the National Aids Council (NAC) over the weekend, hosted a golf tournament.
The high profile tournament is known as the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) Open.
Held at Chapman Golf Club in Harare, the tournament ran from the 6th to the 8th of September under the theme: “Tee off for Health”.
NAC together with other partners, organised the tournament as a way of offering free cancer screenings to attendees.
The sporting event highlighted NAC’s commitment to addressing public health challenges including cancer.
At the event, NAC offered free cervical, breast and prostate cancer screening.
Teenage golf sensation Miriam Masiya won the 2024 ZLGU tournament while Zarina Makwarimba and Letwin Ncube were second and third respectively.
Momo Mlalazi won the A division while Chochorayi Chagweda was crowned champion for the B division.
ZLGU president Olivia Nyamwanza applauded NAC for helping them in the organisation of the tournament.
“We are grateful to NAC for allowing us to host the tournament. We are happy to have managed to host such a high-profile tournament,” Nyamwanza said.
Nyamwanza also expressed his delight that the tournament attracted foreign players from South Africa and Zambia.
