HARARE – Yvonne Mapika Manwa, the Secretary General (SG) of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), has expressed optimism ahead of the Warriors’ crucial AFCON qualifiers against Kenya and Cameroon in Uganda this coming week.
The Warriors are set to face Kenya on 6 September before hosting Cameroon four days later at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.
Despite two disappointing defeats in the World Cup qualifiers in June, Manwa has already expressed her faith in the squad assembled by newly appointed head coach Michael Nees.
She believes the Warriors will be off to a good start in the AFCON qualifiers campaign, claiming the team has a “good chance” of qualifying for the finals slated for Morocco in 2025.
“We have a very good team. We have got a very good chance of making it (to the AFCON finals). We say Go Warriors Go,” she told the ZIFA media team.
The former Ngezi Platinum Stars CEO made these remarks on Tuesday after a significant announcement by ZIFA.
The association entered into a new partnership with Betterbrands Gold, owned by prominent businessman and ZANU-PF legislator Scott Sakupwanya.
Betterbrands Gold are now the official shirt sponsor for the Warriors, so far in the AFCON qualification campaign only.
The sponsorship deal, valued at US$80,000, will provide the Warriors with top-quality apparel for training, travel, and matchday activities.
ZIFA revealed replica jerseys will also be made available to fans at a later date courtesy of Betterbrands Gold.
