BULAWAYO – Despite their opponents playing for over 25 minutes with 10 men, Highlanders failed to capitalise on this advantage and were held to 0-0 draw against cross-town rivals Chicken Inn FC on Sunday afternoon.
The key moment in the game came in the 64th minute when Chicken Inn defender Mpumelelo Bhebhe was sent for an early shower after a second yellow card for a rough tackle on Nqobile Ndlovu on the edge of the box.
Another moment saw Bosso’s Prince Ndlovu hobbling off the pitch following an injury and he was replaced by Honest Mhlanga.
The Bulawayo giants were the first to pose a threat early in the game as Brighton Ncube managed to get Nqobile Ndlovu through on the left wing, but Ndlovu’s shot was too strong.
In the 17th minute, Michael Charamba tried to score a goal from a long distance, but his shot missed the mark.
Four minutes later, Charamba attempted another long pass, which was intercepted by Arthur Ndlovu for a corner kick.
There was a heart in mouth moment when Chicken Inn goalkeeper Donovan Bernard passed the ball to Highlanders’ captain of the day, Lynoth Chikuhwa, who was playing alongside Brighton Ncube.
Instead of shooting, Ncube chose to pass, and Bernard was able to intercept the pass.
