HARARE – The newly appointed Zimbabwe senior national team substantive head coach, Michael Nees, was reportedly set to touch down in Harare this afternoon.
A source at the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) quoted by NewZimbabwe.com confirmed.
“All I can tell you for now is the new coach will be welcomed tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon in the country at Robert Mugabe International Airport.
“Everything is now in order in terms of his work permit. I can even confirm to you that he is supposed to watch the CAPS United vs Manica Diamonds match on Sunday at Rufaro stadium, mind you AFCON Qualifiers are around the corner, he needs to come up with a squad next week,” said the source.
Nees’ first assignment as the Warriors coach will be a clash against Kenya in the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers on 6 September away in Uganda.
The German tactician was appointed Warriors coach on 30 July 2024 after being selected as the best candidate after ZIFA had shortlisted five coaches for the interviews for the top job.
The other four candidates were Gerard Nus (Spain), Marcio Maximo Barcellos (Brazil), Antoine Hey and Winfried Schafer both of German nationality.
