HARARE – Controversial Zimbabwean social media commentator Shadaya Tawona has hit out at South African rapper Da Les, describing him as a poster boy for living recklessly after his family asked for donations from close associates to settle his hospital bills.

Shadaya’s comments came as the appeal by the family sparked a frenzy on social media as many questioned how the man referred to as the North God could not afford to pay his medical expenses.

The rapper is famous for hosting all-white glitzy parties in Joburg’s affluent northern suburbs.

The rapper suffered a stroke on Friday on what was his 39th birthday.

In a note to close friends, the rapper’s family asked them to make donations to an account that reportedly belongs to his mother, Priscilla Mampe.

“Hi Friends, as support to Leslie’s family while Les is in hospital, we are encouraging friends to assist in kind to Leslie’s mother’s account below,’ the note said.

The family also said that the rapper’s health was improving.

“Whilst he is in a stable condition, this remains a challenging time for his loved ones and his family calls on the public to keep him in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult period,’ his family said.

However, the outspoken Shadaya said that Da Les did not deserve sympathy for recklessly living his life.

“DA L.E.S is another example of living recklessly will always catch up with you. Constant partying, drugs, alcohol, women and spending like there’s no tomorrow has finally caught up with him,” Shadaya asserted.

“Reports are saying he needs donations for his medical bills, after suffering a stroke He doesn’t deserve any donation, he isn’t a victim of unfortunate circumstances, he brought it all upon himself.

“The reckless lifestyle led to the stroke and also why he is broke. He was given talent and the opportunity to earn money but he wasted it on vanity,” he added.

According to a source who spoke to Zimoja, the rapper’s mother, who is en route to South Africa from the US where she is based, was devastated by her son’s current condition.

“She is not okay; I just want us to keep his family in her prayers. She is devastated,” the source revealed.
