HARARE – Ngezi Platinum Stars striker, Obriel Chirinda, has been crowned the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) Player of the Month for June, overcoming stiff competition from Khama Billiat and William Manondo.
FUZ announced in a statement on Tuesday as they extended their congratulations to Chirinda.
“Congratulations to Obriel Chirinda for being Voted Player of the Month for the month of June,” wrote FUZ on their social media platforms.
This comes a week after Chirinda was also voted the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Player of the Month for June.
The 26-year-old forward’s scoring prowess in June inspired Ngezi Platinum Stars who were struggling to win, to record crucial victories.
He netted in their resounding 3-0 win against his former paymasters Chicken Inn.
He went on to score in their 2-1 win over Herentals and 3-2 victory versus CAPS United.
This was during Chirinda’s return to action after missing 14 games in the 2024 campaign due to a contractual dispute with Dynamos.
The matter was then resolved by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Player Status Committee, paving the way for his clearance to play for Ngezi Platinum Stars.
While it was Chirinda that stole the show in June, Billiat and Manondo were almost equally good.
Manondo also impressed with three goals to his name, a brace against Chegutu Pirates and a single goal when they lost to Ngezi Platinum.
On the other hand, Billiat scored two crucial goals for Yadah.
He helped the Miracle Boys to pick a point against Manica Diamonds (1-1) and was one of the scorers in their famous 2-0 victory over Highlanders.
