HARARE – Former Dynamos striker Evans Gwekwerere has reportedly paid lobola and subsequently went on honeymoon with his wife, Natasha Kaira Green, after Dembare paid US$17 000 of the US$27 000 debt which was owed to him.

Dembare were forced to pay off Gwekwerere last week by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as failure to do so could have jeopardised the club’s participation in the Confederation Cup this season.

Without making the payment, the Harare giants were facing a possible ban.

Gwekwerere has reportedly already put his small fortune to good use, paying lobola and taking his wife for their honeymoon in neighbouring South Africa.

The pair are reportedly currently guests at the Blyde Riverwalk Estate, a giant exclusive residential development in Pretoria which boasts its own private beach.

The estate is advertised as a “water-lover’s paradise, a one-of-a-kind lifestyle estate with a crystal-clear sustainable lagoon for water sports.”

The pair have been posting videos and pictures of their stay at the estate, with Natasha captioning one of the images “Me and my lovely hubby.”

An inside that spoke to the H-Metro newspaper revealed that the windfall had come just in time for Gwekwerere, who needed to pay off some lobola obligations that were creating friction with his family.

“Evans is making full use of the jackpot he received from his former employers and he has already paid lobola for his wife and the couple flew out to South Africa for their honeymoon.

“Even though the couple have been together for some time, there were still some formalities which needed to be completed and the payment of lobola was one of them.

“It was creating some issues between the two because of family pressures and even though the two are madly in love it forced Natasha to move back with her parents at some stage.

“But, that has now been settled after the payment of the lobola and they decided they needed some space, just the two of them, and they chose South Africa,” the source said.

As Gwekwerere had played in South Africa during his career, Mzansi seemed like an obvious destination for the couple, the source revealed.

“Evans has worked in South Africa before, when he was a footballer and he has many friends in that country and the destination was an easy choice.”
