MUTARE – The once promising Manica Diamonds season is on the verge of taking a new twist, and probably the pressure is mounting for coach Jairos Tapera.

The Gem Boys who at one time this season, were the Castle Lager PSL log leaders have struggled to bounce back to winning ways in recent weeks.

They were genuine title contenders but with the way they are currently performing, their championship aspirations are slowly dwindling.

Manica have had a disappointing winless run in their last seven matches, drawing six and losing one.

Despite enduring a winless streak of seven matches, worryingly, Manica are also struggling to find the net.

They have scored just one goal in their last seven games, and this poor run has frustrated their supporters who are now calling for Tapera’s head.

Yesterday they drew 0-0 with reigning champions Ngezi Platinum in front of their home fans at Sakubva Stadium.

The disappointing goalless draw fueled supporters to gather outside the stadium after the match, protesting and demanding Tapera’s departure.

As a result, police had to intervene to disperse the agitated fans.

It is the continued omission of veteran midfielder Pascal Manhanga from the starting lineup that frustrated a section of the Manica Diamonds faithfuls.

They believe the Mutare born ex-How Mine and Highlanders pint sized midfielder’s inclusion could help the team bounce back to winning ways.

Meanwhile, in their next assignment Manica Diamonds are facing a tricky Chicken Inn away at Luveve Stadium in Bulawayo this coming Saturday.
