HARARE – After years of drama and even heartbreak at times, businessman Phillip Chiyangwa finally made his relationship with Sarah Frankis official, tying the knot in front of family and friends at a ceremony held at his Borrowdale mansion on Friday.

The journey towards the isle had been a long one for Chiyangwa and Frankis, who a decade ago was accused of being the woman behind the businessman’s marital problems which had seen his then wife, Elizabeth Juma seeking a divorce.

According to reports in 2013, when Juma initially filed for divorce, Chiyangwa and Frankis had reportedly been in a long-term relationship which led to increased infidelity by the businessman, which Elizabeth regarded as a deal-breaker in her marriage.

In March 2018, Elizabeth divorced Chiyangwa after 30 years, demanding a lion’s share of the family’s US$230 million estate, but she was awarded 85% of the family wealth and $85 000 monthly maintenance for 120 months.

In 2020, it was revealed that Chiyangwa had another wife, Saniso Katetere, who he had been customarily married to for 26 years.

Katerere also filed for divorce, claiming her marriage to Chiyangwa had not been rosy, but had instead been marred by physical, emotional and verbal abuse to the extent that they no longer lived and planned together.

All that unpleasantness seemed to be a thing of the past on Friday as Chiyangwa tied the knot with a woman who had said he had always regarded as “the one”.

Chiyangwa and his bride danced to the hit song “Kana Ndanyura” by popular musician Killer T while guests who included captains of industry, religious leaders, including the founder and leader of Prophetic, Healing and Deliverance Ministries Walter Magaya, and some politicians looked on.

Some also took the opportunity to also showcase their nimble feet, as they danced during a ceremony that Chiyangwa said had been a long time coming.

“A great moment for my lovely wife and I,” Chiyangwa told H-Metro. “It was a long time coming. I had no doubt in my life that she is the one. Since I laid my eyes on her, I knew, Sarah was the one. We have been through the best and not so good times but our love is unshaken.”

Chiyangwa also said he was looking forward to what life had in store for them as a couple.

“We are looking forward to the next chapter of our lives and for that chapter I wouldn’t have chosen a better partner.

“I’m grateful to our close family and friends who joined us for the ceremony on Friday. They made the day extra special.”
