Former Zimbabwe Warriors forward Khama Billiat is expected to be lined up for the COSAFA Cup squad but only ‘if he announces he has come out of international retirement’, Nehanda Radio has been told.
The regional tournament is scheduled for 26 June to 7 July in South Africa.
Warriors interim coach Jairos Tapera is reportedly ‘keen’ on including the 32-year old talented attacker who is currently impressing at Yadah FC.
Billiat has five goals to his name, two behind the Premier Soccer League (PSL)’s leading top goal scorer.
This comes at a time that earlier reports suggested Billiat was a potential inclusion in Tapera’s recent squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa.
However, Billiat’s continued silence on his international retirement status reportedly led the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) top brass to exclude him from the final selection.
A source at ZIFA revealed to Soccer24 last month. Said the source: “Of course Khama Billiat was wanted in the Warriors squad.
“Everybody has seen how good he still is. He is a player of so much quality. However, the fact that he didn’t publicly say he has come out of retirement made things difficult.
“Remember coach (Jairos Tapera) was close to signing Billiat (at Manica Diamonds) before the he eventually settled for Yadah, so it’s obvious he knows how good the player is.
“Those close to him tried to persuade him to even just post on social media that he is coming out of retirement, but he refused.
“Those close to him said he (Billiat) was interested in playing for the Warriors again, but what he didn’t want was the possibility of announcing that he was coming out of retirement then go on to miss out on the squad.
Billiat announced his retirement from international football in 2021.
As it stands, it remains to be seen if the former Kaizer Chiefs star will decide to come out of retirement and probably find himself donning the national team jersey once again.

Akadaidzwa akabvuma its fine. Vanenge vachamunetsera chii? It means he has accepted being called out of retirement.
There is definitely no need for his announcement on the issue . He did not apply to rejoin the national team. His experience is needed. He is a professional and i believe he should not stoop so low to allow that nonsense
Zimbabwe ine nhamo sure, munhu akadzoka kumba ashaya team ku SA. Kushaya maplayers here kunopa kuti mutadze kupa vamwe chance. Regai mweya uzorore uyo
I honestly think khama should stay in retirement because it is always good to leave the stage when the fans still want you .
