HARARE – Prominent football fan Eddie “Mboma” Nyatanga, a founding member of the Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters Association (ZNSSA), passed away at his house in Borrowdale on Tuesday night.
The 62-year-old reportedly succumbed to a severe headache which some of those close to him believe was related to a heart attack.
Nyatanga was also an instrumental figure in Zimbabwean football politics and regularly played kingmaker in the election of previous Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidents.
In March 2019, he stepped down as ZNSSA president and took a ceremonial role as the founding president of the organisation.
According to reports his decision came after ZNSSA and the Friends of the Warriors ended years of acrimony by agreeing to work together.
