Zimbabwean songstress Cindy Munyavi and Zimdancehall superstar Freeman HKD, have released their new single “Bad Energy”, an uptempo afro-dancehall track that carries an “empowering” message about overcoming negativity.

Recorded in the United States last month, “Bad Energy” marks the second collaboration between Cindy and Freeman HKD, following their duet “Ndiwe Unoita” over a decade ago.

According to Cindy, the concept of the song was written by Freeman HKD, and it is about rebuking negativity that people may try to bring, especially when you’re trying to do something great.

“The song says ‘Bad energy, you can’t stop me’,” Cindy revealed.

“It’s about having faith that God is in control, despite people’s attempts to stand in your way. The final decision about your life and success lies with God because he is the author of our lives.”

According to Cindy, the song’s production, handled by Shamex, with Levels serving as the recording engineer, is a danceable afrobeat-influenced sound perfect for celebrating.

Wayne Beats mixed and mastered the track, with Mhirado serving as the Executive Producer. The cover art was created by Andy-reezy.

Cindy expressed her hopes for the single, saying it will garner traction from across the African continent.

“We are hoping ‘Bad Energy’ not only connects with Zimbabwean music fans but also gains traction with audiences across Africa and the diaspora who love afro-dancehall and afrobeats vibes,” she said.
