SuperSport still keen on signing Chicken Inn goalkeeper Donovan Bernard

South Africa’s DStv Premiership outfit SuperSport United are reportedly still interested in signing Chicken Inn and Zimbabwe Warriors goalkeeper Donovan Bernard.

According to reports, Matsantsatsa’s chief scout Paul Matthews was in the country at the weekend, assessing Bernard and other local league stars.

Bernard’s representative, FIFA agent Gibson Mahachi confirmed the news to Zimpapers Sports.

“I can confirm that I was with the SuperSport United chief scout (Paul Matthews) at Barbourfields Stadium last weekend watching the game between Chicken Inn and Dynamos,”

“Matthews had come to see how a few local (league) players play in a real game situation and he was also watching Donovan (Bernard).

“Remember, they (SuperSport) once showed interest in signing Donovan a few months ago.

“They are looking for a goalkeeper ahead of the start of next season in South Africa,” Mahachi revealed.

“… Matthews was assessing Donovan and it’s still a work in progress as they are still to watch the goalkeeper do duty for the Warriors in South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers.”

News that SuperSport are interested in Bernard’s service was reported at the start of the year after the 28-year old had performed well during the World Cup qualifiers with the Zimbabwe national team in November 2023.

He kept one clean sheet against hosts Rwanda and conceded one goal versus African powerhouse Nigeria.

The Aces Youth Soccer Academy product is likely set to be the Warriors’ first choice in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers next month in South Africa.

Zimbabwe will play Lesotho on the 6th of June and South Africa on 11 June.
