MUTARE – A stoppage time goal by second half substitute Michael Tapera was enough for on fire Manica Diamonds to beat FC Platinum at Sakubva Stadium.

The victory saw the Mutare based side claiming its fifth consecutive victory.

This narrow win placed them firmly in second place on the log table, just two points behind leaders Highlanders FC.

The impressive winning streak comes after a slow start to the 2024 PSL season, where they failed to secure a win in their first four games.

But since then, the Jairos Tapera coached has won every match, beating Chicken Inn (1-0), Herentals (2-1), CAPS United (1-0), Arenel Movers (1-0, and yesterday FC Platinum (1-0).

Tapera was happy with their victory over Platinum.

“We played a very good team. We were knocking the ball around and they were good at defending,” said the former Zimbabwe Young Warriors coach.

“However we continued pressing until we got a goal. I am happy for my boys as they continued exerting more pressure resulting in the goal.”

His opposite number Norman Mapeza was disappointed, blaming his defense for failing clear the corner kick that led to the last minute goal.

“The defence failed to clear that corner kick and it resulted in a goal,” he said.

Mapeza believes they “dominated the game” but were not clinical in front of goal and “nee to improve on (that)”

He also acknowledged that Manica are a good side and congratulated them for their victory.
