Ex-Warriors defender Jambo calls for more sponsorship in Zim football

Former Zimbabwe Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs defender Zhaimu Jambo has made a passionate plea for increased sponsorship in the country’s domestic league, the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Jambo, who currently coaches the U-15 side at South African giants Kaizer Chiefs, believes more financial backing could impactfully transform the PSL.

He emphasized the importance of more sponsors and wealthy individuals willing to step in to support the PSL.

“Our football only lacks sponsorship and I think we are not short of talent.

“We have abundant talent that needs the support of serious individuals and sponsors who can change the status of our football,” Jambo told Zimpapers.

He added that: “There should be a way to professionalise Zimbabwean football because that has been the biggest letdown.”

Jambo’s sentiments comes after his own career was tragically cut short by a serious knee injury in 2012 which forced him to hang his boots in 2015.

The 36-year-old, who was seen as a rising star at the time, suffered a serious injury following a tackle by compatriot Tinashe Nengomasha.

His career ended prematurely but his club Chiefs offered him a coaching role with their development team.
