BULAWAYO – A well struck left footed shot in the first half by impressive midfielder Melikhaya Ncube and a second half goal by Archiford Faira were enough for Highlanders to defeat their arch rivals Dynamos 2-1.
The thrilling league encounter was played at Barbourfields (BF) Stadium in Bulawayo on Sunday afternoon.
The match saw re-appointed Kelvin Kaindu who is making his third stint with Highlanders, securing his first win over the Bulawayo giants’ old rivals Dynamos.
Before the match, the Zambian gaffer had met the Harare giants six times and was yet to taste victory.
In those six matches, Kaindu lost three times to former DeMbare coach Kalisto Pasuwa while the other three encounters ended in 1-1 stalemates.
Speaking after the match, a happy looking Kaindu said: “It wasn’t an easy game. The good thing is that we managed to start with a victory, which is an improvement on our part.
“It was just unfortunate that in the second-half, we played too much in our own half. The good thing was the tactical discipline and organisation.”
Ncube opened the scoring in the 19th minute while Faira doubled the lead for the hosts in the 48th minute.
DeMbare who came an improved side in the second half, found their consolation goal through new signing Alexander Mandinyenya on the hour mark.
