HARARE – Prophet Walter Magaya, the Yadah FC owner, has thrown his support behind the club’s recent signing Khama Billiat, saying the former Zimbabwe Warriors poster boy is “still an incredible player”.
Magaya’s remarks comes after Billiat’s surprise move to Yadah, a ‘lower-ranked’ side in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), was met with criticism from a section of his fans.
Billiat, once considered one of Africa’s top players in recent years, signed a one-year deal with the Miracle Boys.
The 33-year-old forward who is set to become the PSL’s highest paid player with a US$3,500 monthly salary, signed as a free agent for US$20 000.
For some of Billiat’s fans, the move is a sign of decline following his illustrious career in South Africa since 2010.
They expected the former Mamelodi Sundowns man to sign for a bigger club, probably in the DStv Premiership after his divorce from the Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs in June 2023.
Billiat was heavily linked with a move to PSL giants Dynamos, but opted for the lightweights Yadah FC who survived relegation on the last day of the season in the previous campaign.
Despite the widespread debate and criticism surrounding Billiat’s move to Yadah, Prophet Magaya, known for his passion in football, remains confident in the highly rated midfielder’s abilities.
“Khama (Billiat) is still an incredible player,” said Magaya, the former Zimbabwe national teams benefactor.
In fact, Magaya believes Billiat will ‘light up’ the PSL by maintaining the top form he has always been known for in the previous years.
“Billiat will certainly do well in our local Premiership. His biggest advantage is the size of his body,” added Magaya.
The talented midfielder’s unveiling will be held on Thursday at Magaya’s recently built The Heart Stadium at his hotel in Waterfalls, Harare.
