Winky D removes Kenako Muzik songs from YouTube after copyright strikes

HARARE – Zimdancehall music legend Winky D has removed some of his hits from YouTube after a copyright complaint from Kenako Muzik saw him issued with two copyright strikes.

Two of Winky D’s songs, Disappear and Mirror, were removed from the platform earlier this week after Kenako stated that they had not been paid royalties from the two tracks.

Kenako Muzik, mostly through Oskid, produced the bulk of the songs off Winky D’s hot Gafa Kicks Tape which was released in 2014.

A further strike would see the Gafa’s entire channel being deleted from the platform.

According to Instagram gossip page, Zim Celebs, sources close to the saga claim the arrangement that Winky D had with the label was that there would be 60/40 split royalties share between the musician and Kenako but the latter claimed they had not received royalties for the album.

The songs that Winky D has since removed from his page are Not Nice, Gafa Life, Idya Mari, Survivor, which features Shinsoman, Copyrights and Woshora.

The issue comes only a week after The Fishers of Men, a group fronted by Charles and Olivia Charamba, had “Sweetie” and “Tengai Mafuta”, songs by Zimdancehall artist Jah Signal pulled down from YouTube following a copyright claim.
