Sean Kingston arrested on suspicion of fraud after his mother is also detained

Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston has been arrested in Southern California, a few hours after a raid at his South Florida mansion led to the apprehension of his mother.

Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, has numerous fraud and theft charges on a warrant out of Florida.

Arrest and search warrants were served at a home in Southwest Ranches, a town about 15 miles from Fort Lauderdale, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

Confirming the raid to the BBC, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said it served arrest and search warrants at the property.

“As a result of the investigation, an adult female, Janice Turner, 2/16/1963, was taken into custody on numerous fraud and theft charges.

“This investigation is active and ongoing.”

The singer’s mother, Janice Turner, was taken into custody following the raid and Kingston was arrested Thursday evening in Fort Irwin, California, the sheriff’s office said.

Both face “numerous fraud and theft charges,” the sheriff’s office said.

Kingston, who was renting the mansion, is said to not have completed payments to VER VER Entertainment on a $150,000 entertainment system that included a 232-inch television.

According to the complaint, Kingston persuaded the company to accept a lower down payment and credit towards the purchase by saying he would produce promotional videos for the company with Justin Bieber.

“He tells a story. He’s got basically a script, he says that he works with Justin Bieber, and that he obviously puts on a big show here. This is a rental house, he doesn’t own it.

“And he lures people using his celebrity into having them release things without him paying for it. And then he simply never pays,” said attorney Dennis Card, who has a civil case against Kingston.

On an earlier social media post, Mr Kingston said his lawyers were “handling everything.”

In March 2024, controversial Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo visited Kingston at his mansion in Florida and used his social media channels to show off the same US$150 000 TV that is now at the centre of the current fraud case. Daily Mast
