HARARE – Flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo has gifted Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Chief Prisons Officer Christine Madeyi with a brand-new Mercedes-Benz C200 worth US$32 000 and US$10 000 fuel allowance, as his spending spree continues.
Chivayo has been in a giving mood recently, gifting cars to everyone ranging from Zanu-PF supporters to musicians and media personalities.
In the latest example of his seemingly endless charity, Chivayo said he was gifting Madeyi because of her unwavering support of the First Lady’s Angel of Hope foundation.
“CHIEF PRISON OFFICER CHRISTINE MADEYI from the ZIMBABWE PRISONS and CORRECTIONAL SERVICE (ZPCS),” Chivayo wrote on Instagram.
“Please go to EXQUISITE DEALERSHIP and see Victor, your beautiful MERCEDES BENZ C200 is ready for collection. This is my small way of saying THANK YOU with much LOVE and APPRECIATION for your endless support and commitment at our amazing MOTHER ZIMBABWE’S ongoing nationwide ANGEL OF HOPE charity events…”

Chivayo, a member of an apostolic sect, said he was also rewarding Madeyi for her religious beliefs.
“You are a wonderful CHARPLAIN, PASTOR and PREACHER of distinguished character not only to the ZPCS but to all of us who attend the various ANGEL OF HOPE charity events and many other church programs you lead.
“Being a CIVIL SERVANT as an exception, only IF YOU GO DRESSED IN YOUR UNIFORM, I’ve also instructed VICTOR to give you an additional 10 THOUSAND UNITED STATES DOLLARS in cash for your fuel allowance as an indication of my further gratitude for your sacrifice and commitment to NATIONAL DUTY… May God bless you abundantly and may this be,” Chivayo wrote.
Chivayo recently bought 50 Toyota Aqua vehicles for his church members of Apostolic Sect. He further pledged to spend over US$3 million on his church members.
Last year, Chivayo was acquitted together with his company, Intratrek Zimbabwe (Private) Limited, of misappropriating US$5,6 million meant for the 100MW Gwanda Solar Project.
Chivayo had been facing a multitude of charges including fraud, money laundering, violation of exchange control regulations and confiscation of profits.
Although he was cleared almost two years ago, the then Prosecutor General Kumbirai Hodzi appealed the decision and got the matter back on trial.
Chivayo’s lawyers led by Advocate Sylvester Hashiti argued that the state was dragging its feet in prosecuting him and the magistrate agreed.
In early December, the tycoon and his company won again in the Supreme Court after ZPC had filed an appeal against his earlier victory.
The total value of the contract awarded to Chivayo’s company Intratrek Zimbabwe is US$172 848 597.60 and his lawyers argue that USD$ 5 811 224.00 paid by ZPC was partly used to carry out pre-commencement works as agreed under Schedule 11 of the EPC Contract.
