HARARE – The ZIFA Normalisation Committee (NC) has appointed Jethro Hunidzarira as their new Technical Director, finally filling a critical role in the association.
Popularly known as Chemie, during his playing days, Hunidzarira replaces Wilson Mutekede, who was shown the exit door by the NC at the end of 2023.
The 61-year-old is a holder of a CAF A license, which he obtained last year.
Unveiling Hunidzarira on their social media platforms, wrote ZIFA: “The new Technical Director has been unveiled. Jethro ‘Chemie’ Hunidzarira.
“A CAF A coaching license holder, Hunidzarira is a former Zimbabwe Saints player who has vast coaching experience across all tiers, from grassroots to elite football.”
Speaking to the media at his unveiling ceremony at the ‘new’ ZIFA offices at 66 Bishop Gaul in Harare, the newly appointed Technical Director promised to improve Zimbabwean football.
“For me football is an industry, it’s a life time job so we need to do things the right way (improve football). If we do it the right way, then we are going places.
“My vision is to work together as a nation. We are planning to have junior league football being played from U-13 in all the zones, regions and provinces.
“We want to give every child there an opportunity to be seen,” said Chemie.
Hunidzarira also promised to “develop a philosophy that will be used by the national team from grassroots level”.
He also said his target is to improve the senior national team rankings.
“In two years to come, we want to see Zimbabwe ranking 5th in the COSAFA region, 25th in Africa and 50 in the World,” added Hunidzarira.
