Comedian Mo’Nique has come out guns blazing against Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, accusing the two of being behind her misfortunes in Hollywood over the years.
Mo’Nique has in the past claimed that she had been denied opportunities in the industry because of the influence of the powerful duo.
Mo’Nique’s issues with Winfrey stem from the former Parkers star alleging that she was “blackballed” by Winfrey after declining to do unpaid promotion for the 2009 drama Precious.
The comedian also believes that Oprah betrayed her when she invited her brother Gerald on her daytime talk show.
Mo’Nique previously revealed in 2008 that Gerald molested her when she was between the ages of 7 and 11.
The episode took place after Mo’Nique had won the Oscar for Precious — just as their feud was brewing behind-the-scenes — and it featured not only Gerald but also her mother, father and other brother.
“You betrayed me, sister,” Mo’Nique said of Winfrey to Club Shay Shay podcast host Shannon Sharpe, “Family is sacred, and we don’t cross the line with family.”
Monique also had a few choice words for Tyler Perry, a man who she claimed had spread a malicious rumour that she was difficult to work with.
Monique said she had managed to get an audio of Perry confessing to this.
Throughout the interview, in which she also spoke out against Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish, she also argued she has not received the same opportunities in Hollywood as she would if she were white.
“If I was a white woman, my name would be Melissa McCarthy,” she said. “Same track record. Five-year sitcom in syndication. Same track record. The opportunities are not the same.” Daily Mast
