Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has continued on his mission of lavishing luxury vehicles on individuals that he believes helped the ruling party in last year’s election battles, this time gifting musician cum politician Sandra Ndebele with a top of the range Mercedes Benz worth US$155 000.
Wicknell gifted Ndebele, who is now a councillor for Zanu PF in Bulawayo, with a Mercedes GLE400d as a reward for her efforts in promoting the ruling party’s cause.
This latest example of Chivayo’s overflowing generosity comes after he gifted Dendera musician Sulumani Chimbetu with a 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE 300d.
That gift came on the heels of rewarding award-winning contemporary artist Jah Prayzah with a 2023 Mercedes Benz 4matic worth US$180 000 last week.
In an Instagram post, Chivayo said that he had intended to give another musician a car but had changed his mind after the artiste criticised Zanu PF.
“As committed on my birthday I said I would buy only three singers and one DJ of MY CHOICE cars, it’s sad and very unfortunate to say one of the singers fell and dropped last minute.
“A few weeks back he posted something saying it’s been 5 months after the elections and Zanu PF has delivered nothing to the electorate.
“I beg to differ because I see the hard work by the second Republic with massive billion dollar projects being either negotiated, commissioned, implemented or commenced.
“The tone of his post offended me as it was based on ignorance and attention seeking hence I disqualified him considering the legal tender being used to purchase these vehicles is mine.
“I will not be intimidated by anyone for using my hard earned money the way I want saka Ukatuka kana kushora Zanu PF to me ndinorwadziwa kunge watuka MAI VANGU,” Chivayo posted.
“Having said that, after this development for the sake of tribal and gender balance i say a big CONGRATULATIONS to you my sister SANDRA NDEBELE…
“Your contribution, commitment and support at ZANU PF rallies as well as your participation in the elections as a Councilor cannot just be ignored…Please travel to Harare and find your way to EXQUISITE DEALERSHIP and see Victor.
“Your FULLY PAID, beautiful, magnificent and spectacular 2022 MERCEDES BENZ GLE400d is waiting for you to collect it and drive it home…
“Don’t forget to hoot loudly whenever you arrive for council meetings pane kamwe ka BATO kari disintegrated kandinoda kungo bhowa ccchete my sister 🤣🤣🤣…ZANU PF HUCHI…ZANU PF CHIORORO…JOIN THE WINNING TEAM.”
Ndebele became a councillor after benefiting from controversial recalls of MPs and councillors instituted by Zanu PF using self-declared CCC Interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu.
She lost the elections in August 2023 and came through the backdoor after voter apathy fuelled by endless court battles saw some CCC MPs and councillors being blocked from standing.
Hopewell Chin’ono, an award winning journalist, Friday made a shocking revelation claiming that Chivayo had benefited from a shadowy and corrupt contract to supply election materials used in the 2023 harmonised general election.
He added that the money being used is part of the loot he plundered from the deal.
“Wicknell Chivayo corruptly got the biggest contract to supply election materials last year, millions of dollars were paid to him,” Chin’ono said while accusing the opposition of being too weak.
“He is now using part of that loot to buy luxury cars for the people who helped Zanu-PF during its election campaign, buying cars from a garage owned by sons of a powerful politician in Zimbabwe.
“Not even a single member of the opposition has dealt with this issue or said a word about it, yet they know about it in detail.
“They are busy tearing each other apart when the crooks are bleeding the country of millions of taxpayer dollars, what then are you opposing!
“The regime awarded an overpriced contract corruptly, they are now using some of that money to pay the people that helped their election campaign, they are doing so by buying cars from a car dealership owned by a son of one of the most powerful political Zanu-PF elites, the opposition is quiet, the citizens are calling the crook used to front this corrupt deal a great philanthropist.
“We are such a useless people, you bash each other when the biggest hospital has only ONE maternity theatre and 2500 pregnant women are dying every year, the whole country has no radiotherapy cancer treatment machine, unemployment is at 95%, the country has the highest inflation in that world at 1,250%, and the local currency has lost 95% buying power! How sweet!
“Keep foolishly bashing each other whilst the crooks loot and plunder your money and natural resources!” Chin’ono claimed.
The claims by Chin’ono were put to Chivayo on Friday and he has not yet responded to them.
