Barely a week after buying Jah Prayzah a new car worth US$180 000, Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has purchased a band new 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE300d worth US$140 000 for Dendera Music icon Sulumani Chimbetu as a reward “for supporting Zanu PF.”
Sharing on his Facebook account on Wednesday, Chivayo left many fans in shock again when he unveiled the vehicle.
The flamboyant businessman thanked Chimbetu and his late father Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu, who he regards as the “best singer of all time,” for supporting the ruling Zanu PF party.

Chivayo is not new to philanthropic work. He recently bought 50 Toyota Aqua vehicles for his church members of Apostolic Sect. He further pledged to spend over US$3 million on his church members.
Last year, Chivayo was acquitted together with his company, Intratrek Zimbabwe (Private) Limited, of misappropriating US$5,6 million meant for the 100MW Gwanda Solar Project.
Chivayo had been facing a multitude of charges including fraud, money laundering, violation of exchange control regulations and confiscation of profits.
Although he was cleared almost two years ago, the then Prosecutor General Kumbirai Hodzi appealed the decision and got the matter back on trial.
Chivayo’s lawyers led by Advocate Sylvester Hashiti argued that the state was dragging its feet in prosecuting him and the magistrate agreed.
In early December, the tycoon and his company won again in the Supreme Court after ZPC had filed an appeal against his earlier victory.
The total value of the contract awarded to Chivayo’s company Intratrek Zimbabwe is US$172 848 597.60 and his lawyers argue that USD$ 5 811 224.00 paid by ZPC was partly used to carry out pre-commencement works as agreed under Schedule 11 of the EPC Contract.
