He is still a top player, unfortunately injuries have affected him: Sunday Chidzambwa on Billiat

Former Zimbabwe Warriors coach Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa still believes midfielder Khama Billiat is still “a top player” but “injuries have affected him” throughout his career.

Chidzambwa’s sentiments comes after the former Warriors talisman was recently ruled out for the rest of the season with a groin injury.

Kaizer Chiefs’ physiotherapist, David Milner confirmed the development this past weekend.

“Currently, our injury list consists of Khama Billiat, who had surgery to repair a torn groin muscle. He’ll be out for the rest of the season.”

Speaking to FARPost, the veteran gaffer Chidzambwa said: “It’s not subject for debate that he (Khama Billiat) is a star. He is a top player, but he has just been unfortunate.”

The 32-year-old forward who is left with only six months on his contract with and the club is yet to negotiate for a new deal is facing a lot of criticism from the club’s fans.

They are demanding that Amakhosi should not renew the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns attacker’ midfielder’s contract, arguing he is now finished.

The situation has casted Billiat’s future at Chiefs is uncertainty.

Nonetheless, his ‘strong believer’ and former gaffer at the national team, Chidzambwa has encouraged the Mufakose born star to prepare for his life both at or after Chiefs.

He said: “At this point anything is possible. Injuries have affected him. If the contract is ending, there are always two possibilities, its either moving on with the club or moving away from of the club.

“The latter is usually the toughest and one that needs to be prepared for mentally. He has to be ready for both.

“There are seasons, ups and downs but all that doesn’t take away the talent and the quality he has in all respects.”
