2017 coup only benefited Mnangagwa, family and clan: Jonathan Moyo

"The voice of your clan is not the voice of God" Jonathan Moyo

Former cabinet Minister Jonathan Moyo claims the military coup that overthrew the late former President Robert Mugabe was endorsed by many Zimbabweans who did not know it was only going to benefit the current Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa, his family and clan.

Moyo and other former Ministers including Saviour Kasukuwere, Patrick Zhuwao and Walter Mzembi fled the country during the coup in 2017. They were opposed to Mnangagwa’s scheme to succeed Mugabe who had ruled the country for 37 years.

During the peak of factionalism in Zanu PF, their faction was identified as the Generation 40 (G40).

The military intervention that was code-named Operation Restore Legacy was led by then Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander Constantino Chiwenga.

Former Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo

Posting on Twitter on Tuesday, Moyo told all the groups that supported the coup including the opposition and some churches that the military takeover only benefitted Mnangagwa and his family.

“KEY OPPOSITION, CIVIC & CHURCH LEADERS marked the 2017 military coup as ‘a miracle’, ‘freedom day’ or ‘Africa’s coolest coup’. FOUR YEARS LATER, everyone can see it was for Mnangagwa, his family and clan.

“Will the leaders now own up and call on the MILITARY TO SIDE WITH THE PEOPLE?” he said.

Moyo on Monday also mocked Mnangagwa’s mantra (the voice of the people is the voice of God) that he used when he grabbed power.

“”Dear @edmnangagwa, LIVES WERE LOST ON THIS DAY (November 15 2017), four years ago. God bless their souls and loved ones. Mnangagwa, YOUR CLAN and THE PEOPLE are not one thing: the voice of your clan is not the VOICE OF GOD, whose voice is the voice of EVERY HUMAN BEING, whether you like it or not!” he said. So what Jonathan Moyo have you yourself cared abt Zimbabweans when you were working in ZANU or u jus want us to fight yo war for u like wat we did for ED. You never had a heart so you will never change.u lost jus stay there why not come in e open

  • Supa-World

True and its getting even worse and Zimbabweans busy telling nonsense instead of repremanding bad leadership. Tomakisa nxa

  • Dennis Kachere

You also you benefited during Mugabe time nonsense shut up we know crooks stay there in Kenya

  • iQuant

That is correct, these ones @zanupf_patriots are just praise singers

  • More Mutandwa

I hate this Jonathan Moyo guy’s way of thinking, When he was enjoying his ill begotten money during his days, he has always been signing praises of the same looters, now that he has been kicked out, he wants to pretend as if he is perfect.. I really wish he had come face to face with ED before he escaped to Kenya, he could be facing the music now nxaaa

    • Maurice Hungwe

More Mutandwa your hatred of prof aside, can you dispute what he has said? Did Zimbabweans get what they hoped post coup or remains a pipe dream? Aren’t there new cadres & cdes who were either birthed or resurrected by the2017 coup? Meditate on prof’s argument & you will see the light.

    • Mat Khumalo

Maurice Hungwe zimbabweans have always know that the removal of the entire party from power is the way forward at this stage. The coup did its job it rid us of a decades long dictator who couldn’t even stay awake long enough for a meeting

    • Rich Mashimane

But Jonathan Moyo is a fool. I vommit when i see his face

    • Maurice Hungwe

Mat Khumalo Did that help in anyway? What was the motivating factor? Zimbabweans had a misconception that President RG was the chief Chef of their problems. There was no need to remove RG! The system furthered by Zpf is the root which ought to be uprooted. The second republic upgraded the already faltering system… More tears for citizens.

    • Leopold F Mudisi

More Mutandwa he is just noisy
During his tenure he enjoyed the benefits with the former president now he cnt just shut his mouth coz haasisimo muchikwata
Gara ku self exiled ikoko Kenya kuno atikudi

    • Mat Khumalo

Maurice HungweMaurice Hungwe lol there was no need to remove Mugabe 😳😳😳😳. What are you talking about every single problem we r experiencing in this country at the moment is because of Mugabe. He has been the chief instigator of everything. He left us in a mud that will take years to take ourselves out off. 2008 was unbearable there was the gukurahundi as well and u say there was no need to remove a tyrant who had ruled for almost 40 years. They very same corrupt system you speak off was created by this mugabe of yours.there was every reason why mugabe should have been removed

    • Mat Khumalo

Maurice Hungwe grunted not much has changed but at that point people needed hope in something new they needed change wch sadly has not come. But at the end of the day that ancient spirit should have left power 30 years prior

    • Maurice Hungwe

Mat Khumalo so you think RG was doing that in his personal capacity? If it was RG then by now e should have at least moved in the right direction! However, we moving in reverse direction at jet speed! Gukurahundi was overseen by who fellow citizen? They removed RG unconstitutionally for their own emancipation.! RG & ED are just the same side of the coin!

    • Mat Khumalo

Maurice HungweMaurice Hungwe the man distroyed this country for 30smthing years. It will take more than removing him to clean up the deep rooted system he created. I’m sure you one of those mugabe loyalists who see nothing wrong with what he did. The man was a disaster to this land. The gukurahundi was overseen by mugabe the fifth brigade only reported to him no one else. Defend the man all you like but he destroyed an entire generation. While his children live off the millions of not billions he left them our children suffer. What ED knows today he learnt from the master Mugabe

    • More Mutandwa

Maurice Hungwe wapindurwa kaaa, Saka stop protecting the evil dids that the Junta has done and Jonathan Moyo was a key player in the distrustion of our country.. Usanyepere kudzungaira

    • Maurice Hungwe

Mat Khumalo i never said RG was a saint but everyone who was with him is an accomplice. RG did not create zanu pf system single handedly! All these heroes & heroines living & dead are accountable. On Gukurahundi, ed was the priest of the operation working with his bishop RG. 2017 coup was nothing about the economy! There were no criminals around RG but criminals were just scrambling for power! Zimbabwe is being steered in the same direction if not worse. Process of rebuilding hasn’t started. They are DESTROYING, look at their policies, actions & Chinese deals!

    • Mat Khumalo

Maurice HungweMaurice Hungwe lol true but removing mugabe was a must. You r right as the problem is not an individual anymore but a deep rooted system but l still blame mugabe for aiding it. When u are at the top your subordinates do like wise he Neva took a strong stance aganist corruption and all. At the end of the day he should have acted like a leader not a greedy pig.

  • Nhau Muchemedzi

So what?? F..k you self centred and egocentric professor. Go to Hell. You are on the same page or even worse

  • Ralph Wassu

I dont like this Jonathan guy, At all.

  • Maurice Hungwe

Hatred of @projn aside, he has nailed it. He has his weaknesses just like the incumbents but fact is indisputable. 2017 Zimbabweans were sold a dummy, hoaxed daylight, all the euphoria evaporated into thin air! The nose dive under RG was never halted! Citizens are regretting their gullibility.

  • Nicky Bennett

Zimbabwe is focusing on economy growth to enable jobs for all before 2023. No more stories and history. You ran away with no one chasing you meaning that you are a coward not suitable for anything in Zimbabwe.

  • Nicholas Mhlanga

He better come back to Zimbabwe and say his views whilst at home if he is telling the truth.

  • Gerald Muchemwa

Bright Kupara uyahlanya wena ilizwe lelo kaso farm ka Khulu wakho

  • Wellington Joseph Gwamuri

Every leadership’s inner circle is from it’s tribesmen and a trusted few for security reasons. The state security agencies the world over in every nation was established to protect the president and his immediate family. When the previous leadership was in power 🔋 he was surrounded by his own tribesmen from state security, the military to almost every government minister except a few from other tribesmen of every province just as a smoke screen. Remember you G40s you popularized the song ” Zezuru is unconquerable” by that you were admiting and endorsing that tribalism was alright. Kugocha kunoda kwaamai kwemwana kunodzima moto. I believe it was the same story with the formation of Zanu pf breaking away from Zapu. The idea was Zapu was more a ndebele leadership so there was a need to have a karanga party. Now there is this tendency of leaving the levers of power 🔋to a family member or anyone of the inner circle to protect looted resources and guarantee immunity from prosecution . Corruption is everywhere from white governments to black people and opposition parties who later become governments. They are all corrupt no sacred cows.

  • Handsomem Mubhonderi

Being a foolish guy as he always is, but this time around Jonso is right. The state of our economy is just what he has said. The majority of the people are suffering. Only a few people are enjoying the fruits of the coup. The current leadership has thrown the majority under the bus economically
