Kelly Khumalo replaces Somizi as ‘Guest Chef’ for Garwe re-opening

South African musician Kelly Khumalo has been unveiled as the replacement for Somizi Mhlongo at the reopening of Garwe restaurant after Zanu PF youths protested Somizi’s appearance.

Earlier this week scores of Zanu PF youths took to social media in a bid to block Somizi from coming into the country mainly because he is gay.

Speaking about his cancellation Somizi said it was not because he didn’t post about the event and feels there was more to it.

“So here is the story I was booked to be in Zimbabwe tomorrow as part of my cooking thingy, there’s a restaurant reopening.

“Everything was done properly, payments had been made. Then they started saying, ‘because I haven’t posted about the event, they wanted to cancel they wanted their refund blablabla, but something felt offish,” he said in a video posted on his Instagram page.

Garwe restaurant located in Eastlea, Harare has now now replaced Somizi with Kelly Khumalo.

In a video Kelly who is a close friend to Somizi said she was delighted to accept the invitation.

“I am so excited to be coming back to Zim for the grand reopening of Garwe restaurant. Thank you so much to Mendy for hosting me and I can’t wait to meet all your patrons today at 6pm,” said Kelly Khumalo in a video. Nehanda Radio
