Hip Hop Queens Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion triumphed at the BET Hip Hop Awards as their mega-hit ‘WAP’ scooped three gongs.
The rap duo triumphed at the annual ceremony which aired on Tuesday night. Their hit song was crowned Song of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video and Best Collaboration.
Cardi makes history as the first female artists to ever win the Best Hip Hop Video twice having been crowned with the same gong in 2019 for her video ‘Money’.
Following the leading list was Lil Baby, Jay-Z and Tyler who scooped two awards each.
Jay-Z won the Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse and Impact Track for ‘What it Feels like’ collaboration with the late Nipsey Hussle.
Lil Baby drove away with the Hip Hop Artist of Year award and Best Duo or Group with Lil Durk.
Nelly dedicated his special I Am Hip Hop award to his city St. Louis in Missouri, and his ‘whole crew’.
He said, “We don’t get a lot of this. We don’t get a lot of chances to stand on stage and say, ‘Yeah, it’s our turn.’ So, this ain’t just for me; it’s for my whole area, my whole city.
“It’s a little different when you tryna rep for you and your whole crew and when you tryna rep for a whole state and just to be clear, I never had a co-sign. I got thrown in the deep end and was told to swim.”
Nelly, 46, also wowed the audience as he took to the stage to perform a greatest-hits medley which includes ‘E.I’, ‘Country Grammar, ‘Dilemma’ and Where The Party At’. Nehanda Radio
