But after failing to appear in court a warrant for his arrest has now been granted.

Deputy District Judge Aneeta Borwick said: “I have considered the application in relation to Saido Berahino and I’m satisfied that the process has been followed, warnings have been sent first class and the significant sum of £75,870 remains outstanding.

“The application is for a warrant and I’m happy to grant that now.”

The Burundi-born forward, who moved to Newtown in Birmingham at the age of ten, scored 23 Premier League goals for Albion during his time at the Hawthorns.

He left the club in 2017 to join Stoke City in a move that cost the Potters £12m, but since then his career has nose dived with managers and teammates repeatedly questioning his attitude and professionalism.

He is currently playing in Belgium with Pro League side Zulte-Wargem and has started the season by scoring three goals in just four league games.
