Macheso vows to support Matsito Jr

Sungura giant Alick Macheso has vowed to continue assisting son to the late musician Tedious Matsito, Muchapedza Jr until he finds his musical footing.

Matsito, 48, who died on Thursday, was on Saturday buried at Restland Memorial Park in Dzivaresekwa, leaving behind his wife and seven children.

Macheso had since taken Muchapedza under his custody following his father’s ill health and taking him to his shows where he showcased and get money to assist his family.

Young Muchapedza is now expected to uphold his father’s legacy.

Macheso who was fulfilling contractual obligations in South Africa said his heart was with the Matsito family.

His wife Nyadzisai and children were at the funeral.

“This is a sad development. Recently we buried Samanyanga (Oliver Mtukudzi), we had cyclone victims, it’s God’s way but it is painful and now Muchapedza. My thoughts and prayers are with the family right now. I’m in South Africa right now fulfilling some contracts and my message is go well my friend,” he said.

A number of musicians attended his burial after concern had been raised that they had snubbed his funeral ahead of some soccer training sessions.

Soma Mafia Ndebele, First Farai, Potipher Mopo, Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria, Josphat Somanje, Howard Pinjisi attended Matsito’s burial.

Matsito died at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he was admitted on Wednesday after his condition deteriorated.

He had been in and out of hospital for some time and was struggling to talk after a series of strokes.

His trail of misfortunes can be traced back to 2008 when he sustained injuries in a road accident coming from a performance in Mozambique which claimed the lives of some of his band members and destruction of his equipment.

The injuries resulted in him being amputated in 2012.
In 2016, he suffered a mild stroke that affected his facial nerve system while at a show in South Africa.

The stroke intensified the following year which saw him being hospitalised much of the time. DailyNews
