If Zimbabwe finish this football journey in the same manner they started it in June 2017, they will not only qualify for the African Cup of Nations finals but will also top Group G.
Norman Mapeza was in charge of the Warriors, on a temporary basis, when they beat Liberia 3-0 in the opening qualifier at the National Sports on June 11, 2017 before he was succeeded by Sunday Chidzambwa on December 14, 2017.
Mapeza has, however, remained a keen follower of the Warriors journey and has rallied behind his successor Chidzambwa to complete the job when Zimbabwe clash with Congo Brazzaville. “We are just 90 minutes away from qualifying, the Warriors have done well in this campaign and I see nothing that can stop them from completing the mission,” a confident Mapeza said.
“The national team is not about personal glory, it’s not about who started what, it’s about Zimbabwe qualifying for the Afcon finals,” added the former Warriors skipper.
Knowledge Musona scored a hat trick on that momentous occasion when the Warriors laid the foundation of a journey that could end in rapture if the Warriors get at least a draw against the Red Devils.
George Chigova, Eric Chipeta, Onisimor Bhasera, Teenage Hadebe, Partson Jaure, Thabani Kamusoko, Danny Phiri, Kuda Mahachi, Marvelous Nakamba, Tendai Ndoro and Musona started for Zimbabwe in that win against Liberia.
