12:33 GMT: President Robert Mugabe is a “source of instability”, has shown disrespect for the rule of law and is to blame for an unprecedented economic tailspin over the past 15 years, his ruling party said in a draft impeachment motion on Monday.
The ZANU-PF party said it would discuss the 93-year-old leader’s impeachment on Monday, after a noon deadline expired for him to resign after nearly four decades in power.

The ruling Zanu PF party fired President Robert Mugabe on Sunday following a meeting of its Central Committee and has given him until 12:00 today to step down as Head of State or face impeachment.
Mugabe stunned everyone on Sunday by making no mention of resignation in a television address, defying his own party and hundreds of thousands of protesters who had already hailed his downfall.
War Veterans leader Christopher Mutsvangwa said; “Either somebody within ZANU-PF didn’t tell him what had happened within his own party, so he went and addressed that meeting oblivious, or (he was) blind or deaf to what his party has told him.”
Impeachment in Parliament
Parliament does not sit on Mondays so any impeachment would have to wait until Tuesday, although a vote may not necessarily take place the same day. War Veterans to hold media briefing at 9.30 a.m.

“How can this Central Committee meeting be called illegitimate, when you see people like Kembo Mohadi, Chinamasa, Mumbengegwi, Obert Mpofu and Sekeramayi in attendance.”
“We were hoping that he would resign and have some integrity while leaving the high office but now he has compromised everything and as Parliament we’re impeaching him.”
