Ammara, Chengeto Brown for Miss Gweru

Award-winning songstress Ammara Brown is set to perform at the Miss Gweru contest taking place at the Cathedral Hall next Friday.

The Mukoko princess is expected to set the stage alight together with her sister Chengeto Brown whom she collaborated with on the song Watchu Want.

Eleven contestants will take to the ramp at the pageant being held under the theme: ‘The pinnacle beauty’.

Event organiser, Mavis Koslek said preparations for the event, which is now in its ninth edition, were going on well adding that they hoped to stage a world-class event.

“The pageant is promising to be bigger and better than previous editions as the Gweru community has embraced it. A lot of companies and residents from the city have supported us and we’re confident we’ll put up a good show,” said Koslek.

Pre-school children will also model to curtain raise for the Miss Gweru contestants.

“The Miss Gweru pageant is designed to empower the girl child through beauty with a purpose projects. The main objective is to continue identifying young women between the age of 17-26 who portray the city’s values, traits and morale.

“The winner will be tasked with the responsibility to market Gweru and the tourism attractions in the Midlands province.”

Last year, 18-year-old beauty Courtney Venencia Matende was crowned Miss Gweru while Zandile Sithole and Michelle Mupasi were crowned first and second princess respectively.The Chronicle
