Doc Vikela ventures into film

By Sharon Muguwu

Comedian Doc Vikela is extending his tentacles into acting and will feature in a film called Harare Hustle being produced by top filmmaker Joe Njagu.

The comedian, who grabbed Annie Kansiime’s attention at a show held in Avondale last year, said he is growing his brand.

“I have a planned stand-up schedule and shoot schedules. All we are doing has been in years of preparation. So I am emotionally and physically ready.

“I have always been an actor. I was always learning behind the scenes and get grooming from Joe Njagu. In our plan, we had 2017 as the year of showing Doc Vikela on the screens.

“This will be a surprise; I want people to be surprised when they see the crazy roles I am going to do,” he said.

The comedian-cum-actor said he is currently working with Njagu in his pursuit for film.

“Right now, I am doing rehearsals for the film, shooting will begin on Monday. It is being produced by Joe Njagu. There are also notable names like Eddie Sandifolo in the movie.

“I will be playing the role of a psychiatric patient in the Harare setup.”

Harare Hustle is a film that looks at the everyday lives of people in Harare, how they balance everything at the same time trying to earn a living.

“I am also doing a sitcom with Nyaradzo Nhengonhema. It has no working title yet. The sitcom is about two young people co- habiting in the avenues. Boy and girl. Not in love. But with crazy backgrounds and their past begins to unravel.”

Vikela added that this is part of his evolution as a comedian, just like anyone else.

“All these years, I have been building a brand as a comedian, most comedians turn into acting. I will not stop comedy. I will keep pushing boundaries and see where they get me. Look at Kevin Hart, Eddie Murphy, all these started as comedians and ventured into acting,” said the award-winning comedian.

He added that he is finding it easy as he is good at catching his lines. Daily News
