Patson Dzamara arrested

By Tatenda Dewa | Harare Bureau |

Patson Dzamara, brother to Itai, a journalist turned activist who was abducted in March last year, on Wednesday staged a solo demonstration at parliament but was quickly arrested.

patson-dzamaraDzamara was demanding to know Itai’s fate after unidentified men whisked him away in a four wheel drive in broad daylight one and a half years ago.

The medical doctor who has also turned an activist waved a placard with the words, “I will never be silent until Itai Dzamara is accounted for. I will never be silent until Zimbabwe is fixed”.

Dzamara staged the one man demo as parliament was sitting.

He wore a green helmet, black trousers and T-shirt, and a jacket with Zimbabwean flag colours.

Armed police guarding parliament took him to a base at parliament.

The State has failed to establish Itai’s fate as ordered by the courts and there is a strong suspicion that he was abducted by security agents after leading a series of peaceful protests against President Robert Mugabe and his government through the Occupy Africa Unity Square (OAUS) campaign.

Patson Dzamara confronted Mugabe with a placard that demanded to know his brother’s whereabouts during independence celebrations in April this year.

He was forcibly taken away by the president’s aides and police but was later released. Nehanda Radio
