Trevor Ncube, the majority shareholder at Alpha Media Holdings (AMH), has reported mysterious visits at his home in Zimbabwe.
Tweeting on Wednesday, Ncube, whose independent stable spans NewsDay, the Zimbabwe Independent, The Standard, Southern Eye and the Mail and Guardian, and is based in South Africa, said three men in military fatigue visited his home and harassed his staff.
“This morning (on Wednesday), three men in Zimbabwe National army uniforms (and driving a black Mercedes Benz (with) registration (number) BCB 7664 visited my home and harassed my staff,” wrote Ncube.
He added that, last Saturday, two unidentified men in civilian attire also went to his home, ostensibly in Harare, and “asked my staff all sorts of nonsensical questions”.
“I see both incidents as harassment and intimidation,” said Ncube. “We wait for the next visit.”
A senior journalist at AMH received a live bullet threat some time back and scribes at the stable have in the past been arrested for reporting on public sector corruption.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) spokesperson, Jealousy Mawarire, tweeted on Wednesday saying he had been summoned by police for questioning but was not aware of the circumstances surrounding the development.
He said the Law and Order section had indicated that it keen to question him in a matter relating to Jonathan Moyo, the Higher and Tertiary Education minister.
“I have been called in by Police Law and Order for questioning in connection with Minister Jonathan Moyo. Not sure what the charges are,” wrote Mawarire. Nehanda Radio
