Family of abducted Itai Dzamara to converge on Africa Unity Square

The family of political activist Itai Dzamara of Occupy Africa Unity Square, who was abducted by unknown assailants 17 months ago, is expected to hold a public ceremony at the Square on Wednesday in remembrance of the former journalist-cum-activist.

According to Itai’s brother, Patson, a large number of Zimbabweans are expected to attend the event.

“It’s exactly 17 months today (Tuesday) since Mr. Mugabe’s failed gang presided over the abduction of my brother Itai Dzamara. Tomorrow we shall show them that they can’t abduct an idea whose time has come. We now have many Itai Dzamaras. See you at the Itai Dzamara Square at 9am sharp tomorrow.”

Government has already dissociated itself from the abduction of Itai Dzamara claiming that it is investigating his alleged abduction by suspected state security agents.

Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa once appealed for information on the whereabouts of the father of two, whose wife, Sheffra, is now struggling to raise their family.

The High Court ordered the state to search for the political activist and make fortnightly reports to relevant authorities.

Dzamara’s family claims that this has not been the case as the state security agents have not made the reports as required. VOA Zimbabwe
