Chunga seeks to restore glory at Harare City

NEWLY-APPOINTED Harare City coach Moses “Bambo” Chunga says he is happy with the material at his disposal but will just add one or two players to boost his squad when the transfer window opens next month.

After presiding over two training sessions this week, the veteran gaffer said he is trying to unlock some value in the team which hasn’t been consistent this season after managing nine points from eight Castle Lager Premiership soccer matches.

Chunga said the team has been struggling with scoring consistently but is confident that the strikers he has will get their act right.

However, Chunga said he cannot reveal his prospects right now, only hinting that he is looking for players who are comfortable with the ball.

“In general, I would want to add one or two players in my team. We will see during the transfer window but I wouldn’t say the names right now.

“I am happy with the squad. We have spoken about the challenges of not scoring because if you don’t score you are bound to have lack of confidence, so we will try to simplify football so that it becomes easy to score.

“I will just give you a hint. I would want to have a type of a player like Ocean Mushure and that is all I can say.

“I want players who are more comfortable with the ball and are not fearful because that way it will open up spaces for the strikers because if you can’t build from the back, you will even bypass the midfield, so we need that comfort from the back,” said Chunga.

The former Dynamos gaffer said it is a blessing in disguise to have started work with Harare City when the league is still on a break.

Chunga believes they will put the time to good use before meeting Ngezi Platinum in the next league assignment.

In his address to the players, Chunga buttressed the importance of unity and have made a short-term target of doing well in the next three matches.

“Things are going on well. We have spoken about the confidence, hopefully we will get the results. The emphasis has been to work for the best interests of the club since we are all on contract with Harare City.

“I have spoken to the guys and we have identified our shortcomings. We hope to work on that and they say united we stand and divided we fall. We have clarified that we are a team so we should work as one unit,” said Chunga.

Despite being 11 points behind pacesetters FC Platinum, Chunga is confident they will recover some lost ground and catch up with the leading pack.

“We are looking up instead of looking down. We want a position where we are looking down and not up.

“We will gain some ground because once you get confidence and have consistency, win three, four games in a row it can change a lot,” he said.

The former Dynamos coach said he is feeling rejuvenated to be back in the fast lane of coaching, having been on the sidelines since last year when he quit Mutare side Buffaloes just before the season had started.

“I think the sabbatical is now over. It has been a while. I have missed the game and now I am back recharged and looking forward to add value to the game. They (Harare City) look organised and from what I have seen in the past two days, the environment is conducive. That is what we hope for. All coaches want to work in that kind of environment.”

The former Gunners coach said he will work with the backroom staff which has been left by Taurai Mangwiro until there is need to recommend one.

“Our chairman said normally we reassign people and don’t do the opposite so I don’t think there would be major changes in the technical team and when the need arises I might recommend, but for now we are working just like that and if there is need I will recommend someone to come in,” said Chunga.
