Dynamos secretary-general Webster Chikengezha will meet the club’s board of directors today with the Harare business executive considering his future at the club following the violence which erupted at Rufaro recently following the Harare giants’ defeat to FC Platinum.
Chikengezha met with the club’s board last week and advised them that he was unhappy with certain issues at the Glamour Boys, especially the negativity that had the potential of corroding his corporate brand.
The two parties are set to meet again in Harare today and there is a strong likelihood that, should they fail to strike a deal, Chikengezha — who is the managing director at Nyaradzo Life Assurance Company — could leave his post at the turbulent club.
A report on ZTV Main News last night said Chikengezha had tendered his resignation and will leave on May 31.
However, the Harare business executive told The Herald that he will meet the club’s board of directors for a second round of meetings today.
“There are some issues that need to be ironed out because as you know that I am the managing director at Nyaradzo and I am the face of the company and if there are some negative issues coming from my role at Dynamos they tend to affect my standing in the company,” said Chikengezha.
“There are some issues that have been happening at the club which I feel have been affecting my standing as a business executive and it’s those issues that I raised with the board when we met last week and we then agreed that we should meet again tomorrow (today).
“As you recall there was violence at Rufaro the last time we played there and my car was damaged in the turmoil and all these things, when they come out in the newspapers, don’t paint a good picture of myself in the business that I do.”
Chikengezha announced last week that the game between Dynamos and Highlanders will be played at the National Sports Stadium.
But on Wednesday club president Kenny Mubaiwa appeared to reverse that decision when he announced that the big game will be played at Rufaro.
Meanwhile, a clique of former players have called for a crisis meeting in Harare to decide the future of the club.
The meeting which takes place just hours before the big game was called by a group of former players led by Ernest Kamba.
Kamba and his backers told The Herald that they were not happy with the situation at the Glamour Boys following a poor start to the season and were also challenging the legitimacy of board chairman Bernard Marriot to lead the club.
The former Soccer Star of the Year yesterday said the meeting was expected to go ahead as scheduled tomorrow at Prince Edward.
“The meeting is going ahead on Saturday (tomorrow) at Prince Edward starting from 10am. We are calling on all former Dynamos players to attend because we have some very important things concerning the club that need to be ironed out.
“So everyone is welcome, including those in the current structures, as long as they have played for Dynamos,” said Kamba.
Kamba, who claims to be the bona fide secretary of the DeMbare board, said the current leadership was illegally running the team under the banner of Dynamos Football Club Private Limited, a company that owns the club.
He said the claims by Marriot that those who played for the club between 1963 and 1968 make up the board of directors was misleading.
Kamba said their constitution state that elections should be held after every five years.
