Under-fire Zanu PF activist Acie Lumumba has been given a seven-day ultimatum to voluntarily disclose any outstanding taxes or face a lifestyle audit.

Lumumba, who has publicly clashed with Youth minister Patrick Zhuwao, was however not amused by the letter alleging that there is a political witch-hunt.

But in recent days Zimra has been pouncing on virtually everyone as it seeks to increase its revenue base.

“Please, be advised that as part of the on-going tax compliance check exercise, I kindly request you to complete the attached questionnaire within seven days from date of receipt of this letter.

“Please feel free to attach any additional explanation to the questionnaire,” the letter reads.

“Note that you are also hereby given the opportunity to voluntarily disclose any outstanding taxes that you have become aware of and pay accordingly.

“I confirm that the information you provide will be treated with strict confidentiality and will only be used for the purpose of fulfilling the provisions of the above mentioned Acts.”

While efforts to get a comment from Lumumba were fruitless as his phone went ringing unanswered, he slammed the tax collector in a post on his Facebook page.

“Seriously Zimra?? They not only delivered a back-dated letter so they garnish my bank accounts by default one day before we have to pay salaries. What type of a corrupt system holds a country hostage? Ok Zimra lets #‎digdeeper #‎fearlessgeneration,” Lumumba wrote.

Last week after being fired from his position as the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Youth Empowerment Strategy for Investment (ZYES), Lumumba accused Zhuwao of corruption and abuse of public office.

He accused the government minister, who is also a nephew of Mugabe, of running the ministry as a “one-man show”.

Lumumba sensationally claimed that Zhuwao demanded three percent from Old Mutual Zimbabwe, accusations that the minister denies. Daily News
