Former Zifa chief executive Henrietta Rushwaya has declined to comment on her involvement in the latest Zimbabwe match-fixing scandal, insisting she is currently working with international law enforcement agents to trap the culprits.

An alleged kingpin of the Asiagate scandal, which rocked Zimbabwean football from 2009 to 2012, the Harare businesswoman found her name featuring heavily once again in the latest saga.

Zifa allege that there was a plot to fix this month’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifiers between Zimbabwe and Swaziland.

The association also believe the locally-based Warriors squad was infiltrated during this year’s African Nations Championship finals in Rwanda where the team lost to Zambia, Mali and drew with Uganda.

“I should be able to get back to you during the weekend when my report will be out. I’ve been working with international investigators on the matter,” Rushwaya told the Daily News yesterday.

Rushwaya said her cooperation with the authorities was a commitment she made to world football governing body Fifa to help fight corruption in the global game.

It was not clear which international security agency Rushwaya was working with at the time of going to press.

However, before the nation could barely forget about Asiagate, there is another match-fixing scandal that has engulfed the local game.

As a result of the latest developments, Zifa has already suspended board member for development Edzai Kasinauyo and Warriors assistant coach Nation Dube.

Former Warriors coach Ian Gorowa is alleged to have been an influential figure in this latest scandal.

Chiyangwa on Tuesday revealed the key characters involved in this Swazigate scandal include the young brother of convicted serial match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal. Daily News
