Mutsvangwa, wife booted out

Zanu PF has imposed a three-year suspension on War Veterans Minister Chris Mutsvangwa for gross indiscipline linked to accusations that he convened an illegal meeting of war veterans in Harare last week, which was dispersed by riot police.

According to the state-controlled Herald newspaper, several Zanu PF officials have been expelled from the party as factionalism ravages the former liberation movement.

Two factions, one allegedly led by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and another led by a group calling itself Generation 40 said to be led by First Lady Grace Mugabe, are fighting to control the party.

Mnangagwa and Mrs. Mugabe are said to be habouring presidential ambitions.

The party also suspended for three years Mutsvangwa’s wife, Monica, and her colleague Esphina Nhari, both members of the Zanu PF Women’s League.

The party further expelled seven former provincial youth chairpersons Godfrey Tsenengamu, Godwin Gomwe, Washington Nkomo, Kumbulani Mpofu, Vengai Musengi, Edmore Samambwa and Tamuka Nyoni. VOA Zimbabwe
