Sulu, Jah Prayzah celebrate Zima victory

Award-winners Jah Prayzah and Suluman Chimbetu celebrated their success at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) by holding a well-attended gig at the Private Lounge in Harare last Thursday.

At the Zimas, Jah Prayzah, who won two National Art Merit Award (Nama) two weeks ago, walked away with the Best Male Artist, Best Album of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Traditional Music gongs while Suluman was crowned Sungura musician of the year thanks to his album Gunship.

The fairly big crowd that attended the joint “celebratory” concert was given an amazing treat by the two Zima laureates. First on stage was Suluman whose playlist included his own hits and several other gleaned from his late father Simon’s impressive catalogue.

The Nyuchi singer’s scintillating performance made revellers throng the dance floor even though it was a week day.

The entry of Jah Prayzah onto the stage made the situation on the dance floor even more frenzied. The Eriza singer justified why he has plundered half a dozen Zima and Nama awards with another energetic and well-choreographed presentation.

Jah Prayzah thrilled fans with new songs such as Musombodhiya in addition to popular tracks on the albums Tsviriyo and Jerusarema.

After the show, the Uzumba-born musician told the Daily News told that despite continually winning all manner of music awards, his desire for winning won’t wane.

“I will continue taking them (awards) whenever I am honoured. There is nothing which pleases me than being honoured for my work. It really encourages me to aim higher.

“I do not think one should reach a level where he/she will say no to recognition. An artiste should continually strive to win all awards available,” he said. Daily News
