In an interview last week, Zinara human resources director Mr Precious Murove said the four tollgates to be ready this month were at Karoi on the Harare-Chirundu Road, at Bindura on the Harare-Mount Darwin Road, on the Bulawayo-Gwanda Road and at Magamba on the Chivhu-Nyazura Road.”

The tollgates at Kazungula on the Victoria Falls-Kazungula Road, at Dewure and Lothian on the Masvingo-Mutare Road, on the Ngundu-Tanganda Road, at Chivhu on the Harare-Chivhu Road and at Rutenga on the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road would be ready by April next year.

Mr Murove feared that the rainy season would stall construction in some areas.

Mr Murove said Zinara would provide sufficient funds towards improving road safety during the rainy season.

“Zinara has prioritised the disbursement of road funds to road authorities to ensure our road infrastructure is well maintained before the onset of the rainy season.”

“On the other hand, Zinara will be supporting the road safety campaigns being done through Zimbabwe Traffic Safety Council before, during and after the festive season. It is important to note that road safety is a collective effort of the Government and the entire nation,” he said.

“While we are working hard as Zinara in ensuring well rehabilitated road infrastructure, responsible driving and the right attitude of motoring public with regards to traffic regulations is one of the major aspects of enhancing 100 percent safety on our national roads.”

He said the Department of Roads through its Provincial Road Engineers started the tollgates in November after the gazetting of the Statutory Instruments.
