Danny Phiri crowned Soccer Star of the Year

Zimbabwe Premier League Soccer League champions Chicken Inn’s Danny ‘Deco’ Phiri has been crowned the country’s Soccer Star of the Year.

Selectors – who included journalists, coaches and team captains – picked Phiri ahead of Ocean Mushure of Dynamos (first runner-up) and Knox Mutizwa (second runner-up).

The 26-year-old player’s colleague, goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, got the Goalkeeper of the Year award while their coach Joe Antipas was voted Coach of the Year.

Harare City was voted the Most Disciplined Team while the panel of selectors picked Nomore Musundire as Referee of the Year.

Chicken Inn won the league championship this year, beating perennial winners Dynamos by a wide point margin to land the coveted trophy.

They will represent Zimbabwe in the 2016 CAF Champions League. VOA
