MUTARE – Chaotic scenes rocked the Zanu-PF Women’s League probe into allegations of participating in an illegal meeting being labelled against the league’s national spokesperson, Monica Mutsvangwa on Wednesday, with rival members openly hurling insults at each other.

As things came to a boil, Mutare City Council Ward Seven councillor, Manyara Jusa was grabbed by the collar by some of the people gathered for the meeting, accusing her of being a divisive element.

The probe team, led by deputy secretary for Women’s League, Sandi Moyo, was accompanied by Shuvai Mahofa and Sarah Mahoka among other members.

They wanted to probe allegations levelled against Mutsvangwa for participating in a meeting where Happiness Nyakuedzwa, who had been ousted in a vote of no confidence by disgruntled members of the women’s league, actively participated.

First Lady Grace Mugabe is the major source of the conflict between two distinct factions that have emerged — one led by Letina Undenge, the wife of the province’s acting chairman, Samuel — and another by provincial Women’s League boss, Happiness Nyakuedzwa.

Undenge accused the Nyakuedzwa faction of not respecting Grace, whom she said should be the only centre of power in the country. She also attacked national Women’s League executive member, Monica Mutsvangwa, for her alleged role in belittling Mugabe’s wife.

At the last provincial co-ordinating committee meeting, Mutsvangwa came under fire from Undenge’s faction, after she reportedly said Zanu PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere was a “nobody” in the party.

Mutsvangwa ignored a letter written by Kasukuwere, acknowledging receipt a vote of no-confidence motion against Nyakuedzwa.

In the letter, Kasukuwere had said the dismissal procedures were done correctly, but Mutsvangwa insisted the matter should be dealt with by the Women’s League, and not the political commissar.

The Women’s League last week issued two contradictory messages, with Sandi Moyo insisting Mutsvangwa faced disciplinary measures, while her fellow executive members insisted no action would be taken on her. The Herald/NewsDay
