HARARE – The family of the late reggae legend Bob Marley is expected to grace the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) to be held early next year where the departed Jamaican music star will be posthumously honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Zima chairperson Joseph Nyadzayo made the revelation in a statement that accompanied nominations for the second edition of Zima.
“We sought to honour the role of artiste Bob Marley’s thirty six years after he graced our first Independence Day and flag-raising ceremony in 1980, then aged 35. And 36 years after his death, we are honouring him for giving us the de-facto anthem, proudly entitled Zimbabwe, and for leading the reggae music revolution in our free nation which has influenced important music types such as our own Zimdancehall.
“His family expressed interest in receiving the award at the event and for reasons of aligning our dates with their busy schedule, we perched on a January and February clear space on their itinerary and it is between these two months that we shall iron out the dates as we keep the media updated all the while,” he said.
