Tocky Vibes returns to glory days

HARARE – Tocky Vibes has been going through a dry season in his music career over the past year but days of glory seem to be returning for the musician whose real name is Obey Makurumure.

Last year he released an album “Toti Toti” that received a fair response though it failed to make the impact made by single songs like ‘Mhai” “Toki Waenda Nenyika” and “Simudza Maoko”.

Last week he made headlines after releasing three songs titled “Maiguru”, “Ndinouya” and “MaSamariya”. The three singles are making waves on local radio stations with “Ndinouya” being played in most public places.

On Saturday he performed at a corporate function at Harare Gardens. People enjoyed the tracks and were already singing along the new singles that are only a week old. His manager Elvis Bokosha said they were going back to dancehall riddims.

“Our album was okay but we feel Tocky has dancehall fans that enjoy riddims. There are a lot of singles we have in our sleeves and we will drop them as time goes on,” he said.

“You can see that we have improved and people are loving our new acts,” he said.

He said they were happy that corporates are gaining confidence in them.

“We have a number of corporate events we are performing at and that is good for us as a band,” he said.

He will be performing in Tanzania early next month before proceeding to Canada.

On Saturday he will join other musicians like Alick Macheso, Jah Prayzah, the Charambas among others at the Police Funfair to be held at Morris Depot.

Tocky Vibes started music back in 2009 and unlike his peers, the musician gained popularity through his hard-hitting lyrics which were pregnant with meaning. His lyrical prowess has made him one of the most sought after dancehall artistes in the country.
