Bosso legend Willard Khumalo dies

BULAWAYO – Highlanders and Zimbabwe national football team legend Willard Mashinkila-Khumalo has died.

According to reports Khumalo, who died in his sleep at a Bulawayo hospital early Sunday morning, succumbed to a long battle with diabetes.

He was admitted there on Wednesday before his death.

The Highlanders welfare manager was in June admitted to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) after he fell ill. At the time club chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede confirmed Khumalo was not feeling well after complaining of nausea.

In July this year, Highlanders were forced to deny rumours that Khumalo had passed away.

Khumalo was an integral member of the all conquering Zimbabwe Warriors ‘Dream Team’ in the nineties under German coach Reinhard Fabisch and won several titles and awards while playing for Highlanders Football Club.

Mourners are expected to gather at his family home in Mzilikazi, Bulawayo.
